How important is fit?
Fit is the most important factor in looking and feeling good in your clothing.  Clothing that is too tight or too short, makes you look like you are stuffed into them.  They make you look bigger than you are.  Clothing that is too big or too long, makes you look bigger than you are.  Clothing that skims over your body, accentuating your curves, makes you look longer and leaner.
The picture on the left demonstrates how baggy clothing makes the
body look bigger.
These pictures are to demonstrate that hiding under your clothing does not work.  Even though the dress on the left doesn’t show her body underneath, therefore any trouble spots she thinks she may have are covered, it also makes her look twice as big as she actually is.

This picture on the left demonstrates that not all plus size designers know what they are doing. Or buyers that offer this kind of stuff to plus sized women.  First of all – way too much going on in the form of pattern.  Second of all – who puts horizontal stripes on a larger woman?!  Third – there is absolutely no shape to this garment whatsoever!!  Use this picture as a reference of what to stay away from – in fact, run away screaming from a top like this!!!

So How should you wear tshirts, dresses,
and patterns?

Take a look at the pictures below to see.

The picture on the left shows how clothing that hugs the curves gives your body a beautiful shape.  Boxy and baggy don’t do that.

The women on the left is showcasing her amazing legs and tiny waist while distracting your eyes away from her hips with a beautiful pattern.  Wrap dresses are a full figured woman’s best weapon for looking sexy!!
I hope I don't get in trouble for using Kiyonna's picture, but I love their clothing!!

The picture on the left is a good example of what you should be looking for!!  The pattern is proportionate to her body.  The V-neck and twist in the front pull the eye up and away from the bust.  The shape of the garment emphasizes her waist.  And the A-line shape of the bodice floats over any problem tummy area she might have.  The ¾ length sleeves are also a good eye catcher because they land right where her tiny waist is.  This is what you should be looking for to rock those curves!!

Too Small is just as bad as too big!

Too tight clothing looks just as bad, maybe even worse, than too baggy clothing.  First of all, cover your butt crack!  No one should be subjected to that.  Second, go a size or three bigger on the shirt.  Rather than squeezing yourself into a smaller size shirt, buy a shirt that skims over your curves.  Spaghetti straps on fuller figured women should never happen.  You need to have quality wide-strapped bras on to hold the girls up and your tank top should never, ever show your bra straps.  The skirt is way too small, although it has the right idea as far as shape.  The straighter cut of the skirt with the flare at the bottom, if fit properly, would be a good choice.

This woman is wearing the same amount and type of pieces and is definitely pulling off the look in a much classier way.  Her form fitting, wide strapped tank top skims over her body and balances out the bottom half of her body with the fuller skirt on.  She achieved the same look without baring any body parts that no one wants to see.

Measure Twice, Cut once, right?!

To insure that you are getting the proper sizes, you need to measure your body.  The measurements of your body that you should know by heart are:
·         Bust Size
·         Waist Size
·         Hip Size
·         Inseam
I am going to let you in on a secret.  Shhhh!  Ready?  There is no standardization of sizes in the clothing industry.  What does that mean to you?  It means that a size 14 in one designer’s clothing will not be the same size 14 in another designer’s clothing.  Study the size charts for different stores and you will see there is a huge difference in the measurements from one place to another.
These are two examples.  Women’s Plus is Wal-mart’s plus size chart. Activewear is Fashion Bug’s size chart.
As you can see a 1x at Walmart is not going to fit a 1x at Fashion Bug.

So, my point here is, stop beating yourself up because something you try on in the store in one size doesn’t fit.  Use size as a starting point not as a rule.  Forget about the numbering system – it lies!!  Try garments on until you find what fits you.  You will enjoy the garment a whole lot more if it looks great and fits wonderfully!
